Camino Day 5 - Puenta la Reina to Estella - 13.6 miles
Today was another beautiful day in Spain. Not particularly challenging except for a short but steep hill at the start. You would think you would get tired of seeing the same absurdly beautiful countryside day in and day out but you'd be mistaken. It really never gets old.
We made the mistake of skipping breakfast this morning only to have the aforementioned hill kick our butts. So when we arrived winded and abnormally tired in the first village around 8:30 we stopped for a quick bite to eat and felt leagues better.
Our pace is quickening, as we stopped for two 20 minute breaks today (one to take our shoes off outside a bar in the middle of nowhere and have a beer at 10:45 in the morning, the other to take a quick peek inside a 15th century abbey with a beautiful golden altar) and yet still rolled into Estella around 1:45.
It's a quaint little town with a lot of charm and lovely people, which seems to be a trend here. Unfortunately they take a pretty long siesta and we weren't able to get anything substantial to eat until about 7:00 pm, at which time I ate almost an entire handmade pizza with mushrooms, local sausage, and artichoke hearts, and drank two cokes. We're sitting in our room now which overlooks the large town square, watching the locals mill about and interact with each other. It seems like such a nice place to live.
Tomorrow we go on to Los Arcos, another small stop on the way to Logroño. Tiffany got some Compeed to address her blister problem and it seems to be working so hopefully tomorrow will be a nice walk.
